Support Just Seeds Art Show Tonight

just-seeds-art-show.jpg

Tonight, Just Seeds and Visual Resistance are throwing a giant art show and sale to benefit Just Seeds transformation into an artist-owned cooperative. The show features work by over 30 artists including: Swoon, Chris Stain, Josh MacPhee, RB827, Christopher Cardinale, Michael De Feo, Kristine Virsis, Elbow-Toe, GoreB, Imminent Disaster, k.see, Nicolas Lampert, Meredith Stern, Cristy Road, Pete Yahnke and others. On top of that, work for sale starts at only $4. In case you didn’t know the whole story:

Justseeds was founded as a radical art distribution service by Josh MacPhee in 1997. In nearly 10 years of operations, Justseeds became a crucial resource for radical artists and activists throughout the US.

In December 2006, the company that was filling Justseeds’ online orders (including hosting the website, processing payments, and shipping products), unexpectedly went out of business, immediately shutting down its online store. On top of shutting down distribution, the fulfillment house owed Justseeds upwards of $10,000 (most of that money in turn was owed directly to artists and writers who sold items on the site).

Now, like the proverbial phoenix, Justseeds is rising: a national network of artists are banding together to create a self-managed cooperative that will help spread radical art around the world.

Gallery of NYC Ghost Bike Photos

The NYTimes has a photo gallery and some words on the ghost bikes Times Up! and Visual Resistance have installed in places bicyclists have been killed.

According to the Department of Transportation, 109 bicyclists were killed on city streets from 2000 through 2005, and 11 more have died this year. Bicycle advocates are lobbying city officials to make New York a friendlier place for bicyclists.

While the last statement is accurate, most policies being pushed by bicycle advocates, particularly traffic relief proposals, benefit the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians alike.
