Biggie Smalls Puts Gravy to Sleep

When the Notorious BIG said, “I hope you niggas sleep,” he didn’t mean it literally. But Jamal “Gravy” Woodard took those words to heart and was caught napping while “Notorious,” the Biggie Smalls biopic, was filming in Brooklyn. He’s either tired of early call times or of playing the blunt smoking Bed-Stuy bandit. [ANIMAL]

A Notorious Production in Crown Heights

Production of the Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious continues, with filming taking place outside today at the corner of St. Marks Ave and Franklin Ave in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. In preparation, a team of set dressers came through to give the block a slight makeover; storefronts are boarded up and a church is hidden completely. The local graffiti has been supplemented with Hollywood approved tags, which fit in fairly well if you don’t notice the lack of Blood and Crip tags or the protective plastic it’s painted on. By the looks of it, they’re staging a scene inspired by video of Biggie rapping outside a Bed Stuy grocery store at age 17.

If you want to be in the production and you’re between the ages of 17 and 35, they’re looking for unpaid extras for a few concert scenes being shot this Thursday and Friday.

NY Mag: Biggie’s Murder is Insignificant

notorious-big.jpg

How does New York Magazine compile a list of violence surrounding New York MCs and not list the shooting death of the Notorious B.I.G? Fabolous gets shot in the leg outside P. Diddy’s restaurant, Justin’s, and Amos Barshad writes:

And he thus entered the illustrious pantheon of New York MCs to get caught up with violence and cops. Join us for a stroll down memory lane, won’t you?

An excited crowd firing off celebratory shots at a Nas show is listed, while the murder of Brooklyn’s Finest isn’t even mentioned? Even more ridiculous: Puff Daddy’s incident in 1999 is characterized as “the mother of all New York rap-meets-gun tales, and still the one to top.” It was pretty epic the way Puffy tried bribing his bodyguard before letting Shyne go to jail for ten years. NY Magazine’s list is really a ramble down short term memory lane. Can we really start forgetting anything that happened 10 years ago?

Gnarls Biggie

Do you have 35 minutes to spare? No worries if you don’t. The title pretty much says everything. DJ Unit, Sound Advice mashed up Notorious B.I.G. with Gnarls Barkley and the result sounds like, well, every other Notorious B.I.G. mashup. ‘Smiley Faces Hypnotize’ and ‘Crazy Butt’ will get a little extra replay. If you skip this one, just nod your head and play along when your boss mentions it on Monday. You can download it at Gnotorious.com.
