Neckface For Sale, Van Included

Last week, one of Banksy’s illegal works was turned into a small fortune as the London building owner sold the painting on eBay, wall included, for £208,100.00 (over $400,000 USD). While it remains to be seen whether the winning bidder actually pays, it’s easy to see how all those dollar signs prompted others to put their graffiti covered property up for sale. This week, there are two vans painted painted by well known New York graffiti writers and street artists on the auction block.
The first is a 2000 GMC Savana Cargo van covered in graffiti by the All City Crew, who most recently collaborated with Graffiti Research Lab on the latest AZ video. There are 256,000 miles on the odometer and you can buy it now for $2,250 in Ozone Park, Queens. [via What You Write]
The second van is a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 featuring the work of Neckface, Kaws and Faile. Bidding starts higher at $6,500, and doesn’t include the sculpture strapped on top. There’s no telling how high the price goes, but seeing that its listed as an “Original work by KAWS, NECKFACE, and FAILE,” and not just a graffit covered van, we bet the owner is expecting a bigger payout. Although the average New Yorker can’t display the work in their tiny apartment, it’s a good investment compared to the fake-ass Neckface drawings someone tried to sell a couple years back. It’s still important to remember all of these auctions are setting a stronger precedent for taking illegal street art and graffiti off the street and flipping it on the art market. If you’ve got a favorite Revs sculpture, take a picture before it disappears.

well done, bro
