Dutch artist Hans Eijkelboom is a conceptual artist whose work is very much in line with—and early on, contemporaneous with—the deadpan, seemingly mechanistic note-taking of Ed Ruscha, Hans-Peter Feldman, and Joseph Kosuth. The exhibition Paris—New York—Shanghai, which dovetails with the artist’s Aperture book, includes both large-format cityscapes and snapshot-style grids of the types of people and identifying quirks of each city. What quickly emerges is how similar one city is to another.
