  6. dude said “where would you guys recommend getting a similar style bike setup online”

definitely a cool twist on a hoo-hum frame in my opinion…

but i’m looking down the road and i see this bandwagon (not the old skate company) of recreational riders attempting to crest a hill on bikes built for “weekend style” rather than to make that check that pays the rent and beer at the cornerstore…

  13. Sweet bikes, I’d been looking forward to seeing the rest of these after the purple one was all over the net a little while back. I’m a little disappointed that they’re all pista concepts tho. BMX = CrMo. I’m working on my own track/bmx project.

  14. Good afternoon,
Yes indeed these ‘joints’ are dope! I was informed by a friendly young chap in the Trackstar store last week they had 3 full bikes left for general sale at the spiffing price of 2500 US Rupees. If only I had been in the States a little longer one of those little fillies would have jetted back to blighty with me.

    Toodle pip.

don’t be a moron. build your own, you are not gonna find that type of hotness on ebay or the forums or the galleries. get your shit together and DIY, or holla at your local bike shop.

  16. Here is what you need;
-various assortment of tools, to disassemble a bicycle
    -one vintage road bicycle
    -one vintage bmx bicycle
    -sandpaper
    -paint
-optional: use a HVLP paint sprayer with automotive quality paint after stripping, sanding, priming, and sanding.

it will take you a weekend.
    there. your’s is better.

  20. Uhm… I do not understand.

They are pretty bicycles, but they’re all the same.

Pista Concepts with various paint jobs.

Either Aerospoke Wheels or Deep V’s.

“We’ve got these crazy colored bikes, but they aren’t really getting much attention or sales.”

    “Well, what should we do?”

“Let’s say that they’re BMX inspired! All the cool, hip kids from the city will shit!”

    Fucking sheep.

  23. They’re completely missing the late 70s/early 80s BMX bike look - chrome frame & fork, anodized alloy parts (blue, red or gold), and colored tires. Painted frames were an unusual sight (in New England, anyway) until the later 80s.

By angle on March 25th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
  24. Just wondering:

Does anybody know what STEM they put on those bikes?

  26. since when have bmxers been fixed?

They’re just track bikes with fancy paint jobs and riser bars…

    marketing bla bla

By fixed up dude on March 29th, 2007 at 8:39 am
  27. These bikes are awesome, for the doubters out there the inspiration from BMX is pretty clear to me and I’ve been riding BMX since 1981 in the UK.

the bikes are clean and simple, and have been made to look stunning with the colours. No, the colours may not be very BMX but it’s in the detail people are looking : See the seats, grips, chopped down bars…

Of course BMX wasn’t fixed wheel but fixed riders and bmxers have a lot else in common, namely riding (and that with one gear!).

By StuLondon on March 30th, 2007 at 6:38 am
  28. @ FIxed up dude: You’re an idiot. Trevor Meyer has been riding a fixed gear 20″ bike in flatland competitions since at least the year 2000. Also, Jamie Staff and Wade Bootes both made the jump from BMX racing to Track Sprinting a few years back. In addition, there have been at least 2 messengers here in NYC who have had 20″ fixed gear bikes at one point or another. One dude is named Powerful, he’s a real short dreadlocked dude who lives in Flatbush and he was working on his 20″ fixie back around 96/97. I don’t know how long he kept that bike, but he now has a 24″ cruiser with a fixed gear and he is still on the streets messengering. The other dude was well known to Track riders who have been doing outlaw bicycle races here in NY since 97 or so. His name is Gandy. He had a Jr sized BMX racing bike customized with sissy bars and some other stuff. He was really fast on that bike, although I don’t know if he still has it or not.

Ultimately, I commend the team at Trackstarr and their friends at DQM for a well-completed project. They’re nice to look at and I’m sure that they suit some riders style as far as their set-up goes. Personally, I hate flat-bar fixies, but that’s just me.

By alchemicepidemic on April 4th, 2007 at 11:44 am
  29. This is an amazing project and I can’t believe people are actually trying to diss this shit.
First of all the P.K. Ripper, Skyway, GT, Dyno and HUTCH (oh my god Hutch was the ultimate to have) are all awesome… but what got me right in the Flatland BMX heart was the Schwinn Predator paint jobs.

I don’t think it’d be practical to make a track bike out of chromoly.

It would have been cool to see some ACS or Odyssey components or ODI or ELF grips, PEREGRINE wheel references would have been a good call too.

But how can you hate on this?
A fun for love and style project that is a vast improvement over the way stock track bikes that every douchebag scenester hipster is WALKING around, talking about their CAMPY this or their Sella Italia that.
    Whatever.

I’m so old and removed from that era of flatland… but it was HUGE part of my life when I was young.
So this is sick as fuck to me.
I calling Martin Aparijo and R.L. Osborne and Dino DeLuca.

Great job and the on colors of the bikes and accesories! They are EXACTLY like those models of Freestyle BMX from the mid Eighties.
Right down to who got mags, who had one mag and which models shipped with spokes.

By Diceone on April 6th, 2007 at 11:54 am
  30. @ dice, who said “I don’t think it’d be practical to make a track bike out of chromoly.”

I don’t know why you’d think that. Columbus Tubing had a tubeset known as “Chromor”, which was effectively a chromoly tubeset. I had a Bianchi track frame that was made with this tubeset and its a really hot ride. I sold it, but the recipient still has it out on the street, for more than 7 years. The model may be one you see frequently. It has a celeste fork and rear triangle, with a black main triangle and purple detailling. the model is known as the Bianchi Chromo-Pista. It looks great with yellow bartape and Yellow velocity rims.

By alchemicepidemic on April 9th, 2007 at 11:30 am
  31. i still think this is a bad handlebar set up. eventual carpal tunnel syndrome (SP?). stop the mtb/bmx handlebar on trackbike dealy-o.

messengers and hipsters who have hook for hands will be the new trend in 2020.

    By my_chain_broke on April 9th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
  32. but they (the bikes) look fun as hell… hate to catch a crosswind with one of those aerospokes on my front though.. yikes!

    By my_chain_broke on April 9th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
  33. Yeah ease up with all the whingeing. These are hot rides, styled to the level of quality you would expect from the two crews. They aren’t fixies trying to be BMXs, they are fixies with colours reminiscent of 20″ of the day. For those of us trying to bridge the gap bewteen 20″ and 700c wheels, glory be to whoever stuck a set of riser bars on their bike first. These rides rock, and are the ultimate in simplicity, visually, eliminating the headset, spokes and brakes. Word. It’s a design thing.

    By doubleoh2 on April 10th, 2007 at 5:36 am
  34. Man, some people just love to trash anything that they see online. Bummer that.

These bikes are amazing and very inspiring. I just finished taking my current bike and turning it into a HUTCH based design. Just threw on some bars, a vintage sticker set and a few other goodies.

Makes me think make to the 80’s…thumbing through the magazines and wishing I had the cash for one of those trick beauties.

  35. “marketing bla bla”

    Yeah.

    But smart marketing.

By Suxck on May 7th, 2007 at 5:28 am
  36. If you like riding (fixed or what ever) because people think it’s cool or you look cool or there is some kind of affiliation with coolness then you’re probably riding for the wrong reasons.

Fix wheels are fun to ride when you get the hang of them…………..

By Prettyboy on May 24th, 2007 at 6:30 am
  37. Fixed gear + BMX = trendstar NYC..stay true to what you do.

Next will be razor scooters with skate branding…so cool.

    Fuck off.

  39. the bikes are alright, many people have hooked up similar looking rides around here in the Bay Area. I like what trackstar and DQM does. To the guy who thinks riser bars are bad for your hands and wrists you are pretty ignorant. The upward position is actually better for city riding and poses no threat to your body. I ride with risers sometimes and drops sometimes. I like Thai food and Mexican. Some people are really miserable. People have a far greater chance of problems from working on computers their whole life than from riser bars. I can assure you of that. And to the dude who said that city kids are sheep because they colored Pista Concepts, you are a bit off too. Many people enjoy the light frame and many people have had them powdercoated. If anyone is a sheep it is Trackstar and DQM copying what fixed riders have been doing. I don’t think this is the case, I think they are just highlighting a nice frame in the early 80s BMX style.

By cheer up wankers on June 26th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
  40. “If anyone is a sheep it is Trackstar and DQM copying what fixed riders have been doing.”

I agree with you on everything else, but Trackstar was the first bike shop in NYC exclusively dedicated to track bikes. They aren’t some corporate conglomerate or fashion company. They are the fixed riders.

  41. Lets get those and some Timbuk2 bags and meet at starbucks

By CFar on August 28th, 2007 at 3:11 am
  42. These bikes are spot on. The gold age of BMX in my opinion was the mid/late 80’s neon era Performers / Streetbeats / Masters. The colours and frame graphics are great, just 2 tiny comments, the TA should be running 2 aerospokes and the Ripper needs ‘landing gear’ fork graphics. Excellent bikes all the same and especially appreciated by all us ex-bmx who grew our of the 20″ers.
    Rich

By RichC on September 12th, 2007 at 4:59 am
  43. What it would really need would be Cook Bros. components and some redline bars!

By OldSchoolOldfool on October 19th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
  44. These are great! I love retro-inspired bicycle builds. A throwback to very small ‘wacky’ mid-late 80’s era. I think this idea plays so well today for many people because of the stark contrast to today’s bicycle graphics and style as well as memories for many of us who grew up riding one of the originals. (or simply coveted!).

I agree that some of these bikes aren’t ‘quite’ there…. like RichC said about the Skyway TA having one aerospoke and the Ripper without Landing Gear decals. Also, they did two Varmit frames?! Those were way crappy: http://img431.imageshack.us/img431/2880/varmit0298iy.jpg made by CyclePro. No retro Redline? Mongoose? Dyno?

I’m with whoever said someone needs to do a chrome-finished frame with annodized parts. That would be way old school.

  46. Hey all you freaky fashion police and fashion hipsters, you know .. you that had the first bmx and you that had the first track bike back in 19blahblah before it was hip. Its good to get people out of the cars and on the bikes ( or any non gas powered mode of transport) no matter if it is because of hipster shit or not. By the way I was sure the bikes were not real and they were from some sort of japanamation or something
