‘Teenage Piece’ Video With REVS

When REVS says, “I like people that just do what they do, whether it makes sense or it don’t” he’s describing himself and the persistence with which he’s made his name across the city. Whether pasting COST & REVS across the city, painting giant on rooftops, recording his life story on the subway tunnels, or welding metal sculptures on the street, REVS has consistently innovated with the biggest and baddest work in New York City. If anything doesn’t make sense, it’s that he’s kept the mystery all these years, while others sell sneakers, t-shirts and videos.

In the NY Times article by Randy Kennedy, REVS said, “Once money changes hands for art, it becomes a fraudulent activity.” Clearer copies of the photos we provided for that article can be seen here and here. Soon after the story ran, most of the sculptures pictured disappeared. Consider that as you watch REVS installing one of his metal sculptures, the 400 pound, Teenage Piece.

This is not your same old skids but a creative comp with an alley cat between series……Bring it back to the streets!!!

Cling On Like the X-Men

The X-Men are a gang of NYC bike messengers featured in “Need for Speed,” the 1994 documentary on the city’s messengers, and although they’ve never graced a comic book, they’re super heroes in their own right. Exhibit A: their bike skills. Exhibit B: their gear. Exhibit C: their gear. Now watch the rest: Part 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

I’m Too Sad to Tell You

arion.jpg

Artist Jessica Williams created an archive of people’s self-portraits taken while crying. Whether they’re onion tears or sorrow, the photos in I’m Too Sad to Tell You are captivating, disturbing and even funny.

You can still submit your own self-portrait if you need a good cry before the weekend.

Marcos Rosales - Excerpts from the Demons of Diversity

marcos-rosales-klaus-gallery.jpg
Untitled, Marcos Rosales

Marcos Rosales is currently exhibiting some new paintings and sculptures at Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery in Williamsburg, which we checked out this past weekend. The exhibit, “Excerpts from the Demons of Diversity”, draws on pieces of his written work and reinterprets the texts into the black enamel paintings and macramé sculptures stretched and hung between them. On the amorphous sculptures, the gallery writes:

“They are both a three-dimensional incarnation of the language-based content of the paintings and a metaphoric connective tissue directly referencing the black ink scribbles which concealed information from Rosales’s biological history.”

The solo show, “Excerpts from the Demons of Diversity” opened this past weekend and runs through April 22, 2007.

Neckface Ad Splashed and Replaced

The New York Times writes that the Neckface Vans billboard that got splashed earlier this month was replaced. Also, see how they so innocently drop Cam’ron’s line, “Go get your wet wipes,” in the lead paragraph.
