Sky Watch: For Officers and Overseers

“You need a little clarity? Check the similarity!” The NYPD is using extraordinary means to maintain control at Carroll Street and Troy Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The apparatus in question is Sky Watch, a “mobile platform for surveillance, assessment, and response.” According to one officer, the watch tower has been effective at reducing crime since it was installed in May 2006. While the Sky Watch would seem to be useful in confined environments, like prisons and special events, we think a six month installation on city streets simply pushes crime to nearby blocks. However, we did catch the contraption in action.

After this show, we totally expected Chewbacca to pop out of this AT-ST knock off.

TRANSFORMERS AIN’T GOT SHIT ON THIS

By nicole on October 9th, 2006 at 4:47 pmI live about half a block from where that watchtower was deployed - it’s since been taken down, but we still have a significant police presence here (including a mobile command center at Carroll and Schenectady). It’s pretty intense. Apparently this all stems from a recent community meeting with the police.

Spoken like somebody that ain’t got a clue what prison is really about. blaming the nypd for the neighborhoods problems ain’t gonna help anything.
By Jamal on November 23rd, 2006 at 5:41 pmNo, Crown Heights *was* a lot like prison: Filled to the brim with criminals, you could get knifed for looking at someone funny, rape was commonplace, and if you had anything desirable, someone tried to steal it.
Used to be that 70 - 80 people were killed a year there. Now it’s more like 15. This doesn’t count the 1,000+ robberies that are reduced by 75%.
So go blame the police all you want, but I don’t want the “pre-prison yard” days back. Take that stupid crane and the cops away and you’ll see what it’s like to live in a prison.
